How We Review Eco-Friendly Litters

Our evaluation process goes beyond simple observation. We use a standardized set of criteria to ensure that every eco-friendly litter alternative we recommend meets the high standards of performance and sustainability our readers expect.

Core Evaluation Criteria

• Environmental Impact (40%): We analyze the raw material sourcing, manufacturing processes, and the product's ultimate biodegradability or compostability.
• Performance & Utility (30%): We test for clumping strength, absorbency, tracking, and dust levels in real-world conditions.
• Odor Control (20%): We evaluate the litter's ability to neutralize ammonia and organic waste odors over extended periods.
• Feline Preference & Safety (10%): We consider the texture and scent from a cat's perspective, prioritizing materials that are naturally appealing and non-toxic.

Our Testing Process

Each brand evaluated on EcoCatLitters undergo a minimum 4-week testing period. This allows us to witness the litter's performance throughout a full replacement cycle and identify any issues that might not be apparent in short-term testing.

Independent Testing

We purchase the products ourselves or use long-term samples provided for unbiased testing. We do not accept payment for positive reviews, and our rankings are determined solely by our scoring methodology.
